At Waseca, we are committed to providing whole foods and avoid processed foods and those containing preservatives whenever possible. We follow the nutrition guidelines set by the USDA but strive to provide a menu that allows children to be exposed to a variety of foods often and at an early age. Each day we offer options for children with special diets including gluten free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian needs.
Our Chef and Sous Chef work to develop a menu that features a fifteen-day rotation cycle that changes seasonally. The children are offered breakfast, morning snack, lunch and mid-afternoon snack, and late afternoon snack . Parents can choose to have their child served cow or soy milk. In our infant classrooms, we work closely with parents on a schedule of introduction to new foods. We want our children to understand where their food comes from. They come to know how the energy from the sun is stored in the plants we eat and the animals that eat the plants. We learn what our bodies need to grow and be strong. The children help serve themselves and clean up afterwards.
It is our belief that children fueled by healthy foods are more prepared to learn and will more likely reach their full potential. Breakfast: Breakfast is available each morning. We serve hot breakfast on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Snacks: While Waseca will provide mid-afternoon snack and late afternoon snack, we depend on the parents to provide morning snack.
